[Poster Design, 2021]

Project focus:

Design a 16"x 20" typographic poster for an orchestral performance that interprets the orchestral work through meaningful and compelling typographic expression.

What is Romeo and Juliet, Opus 64?

Romeo and Juliet, Op. 64 is a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. It was first composed in 1935.

Design approach:

The poster is designed with letters intertwined to represent the love and hate between the Montague and Capulet families. Merging the "E" from "Romeo" and "Juliet" represents a peaceful ending of the two families after Romeo and Juliet’s tragic death.

The design also incorporated a music staff and notes from the music sheet. The color palette is derived from the gold leaf details of a 19th-century theater interior.
